LOOKING BACK

This is a transitional lesson. You will need to be sensitive to the progress of the group.

It might be a good time to throw a party to celebrate what God has done and what the participants have learnt.

However, If they have not yet completed the tasks of Phase 1 then pause and work on these before going on the Phase 2.

Celebration of Faithfulness (15 minutes)

Get into groups of 3-4 people and share how did with the goals you set at our last meeting:

Are we ready to move on?

Five things were in place at the end of Jesus preparation years:

  1. Purpose: What is our mission?
  2. Passion: What is our motive?
  3. Product: What does our Heavenly Father want to produce through us?
  4. Process: What are the steps in becoming a maturing disciplemaker?
  5. People: Who has the Father sent to prepare the way?

Are these things in place for your ministry?  If not, what still needs to be done?

LOOKING UP

Phase 2: Ministry Foundations: around Spring 26 AD - Late 27 AD

Establishing a relational God-centered foundation for making disciples
Stage of Ministry
The Pattern from Christ

During Jesus'  first year and a half of ministry, Jesus spends His time developing a close relationship with a smaller group of people rather than trying to reach the masses. He stays in the wilderness near the Jordan River and the smaller towns of Galilee. His priority is to spend time with His initial followers.

During this phase, we see Christ ministering to a wide variety of people. The few miracles He performs are focused on revealing His identity to the people following Him. This period officially begins at Jesus’ baptism and continues until His rejection at Nazareth. During this time, Christ begins to prepare those He is with for the ministry ahead.

The Ministry Foundations Phase is a time for leaders to build good relationships in preparation for the expanded ministry ahead. It is a time when we use our resources and energy to build an atmosphere of love, trust and acceptance as a foundation for future ministry.

LOOKING FORWARD

We will focus on one of the foundational priorities in each of the next six sessions.

In each of these six sessions we will also focus on the progresss you are making in developing a team of like-minded individuals who are commitd to being involved in ministry as a team.

Ministry Foundations Objectives

Jesus’ two main objectives during the Ministry Foundations Phase:

1. Create a relational, God-centred ENVIRONMENT for producing disciples through six foundational priorities:

  • Holy Spirit dependence
  • Prayer
  • Obedience to a Kingdom Agenda
  • Word of God
  • Exalting the Father
  • Relationships that are intentional

2. Begin to identify, THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS, a team of like-minded individuals committed to being involved in ministry as a team

Preparing for Mission
  • What are you looking forward to during the next week?
  • What challenges are you facing in the next week?
  • Which petals of your Daisy Chain do you need to focus this next week?
  • Write “I will, by when” statements. Include “Who will you teach this lesson to?
