Challenge: Can particpants recite the objectives of this phase by memory?

Remember: "Holy Spirit POWER" is only part of it.

There is also creating a relational, God-centred ENVIRONMENT and identifing  THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS,  like-minded individuals committed to being involved in ministry as a team.

Objectives of the Ministry Foundations Phase

1. Create a relational, God-centred ENVIRONMENT for producing disciples through six foundational priorities:

  • Holy Spirit dependence
  • Prayer
  • Obedience to a Kingdom Agenda
  • Word of God
  • Exalting the Father
  • Relationships that are intentional

2. Begin to identify, THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS, a team of like-minded individuals committed to being involved in ministry as a team

LOOKING UP

Make sure that particpants understand that "When ministry does not go as expected, the first response should be to pray".

You may also need to change your methods and/or expectations, but pray first.

Context

Jesus and three of his key disciples are returning from the mountain where Jesus was transfigured.

They are now returning to meet the other disciples, who are interacting with a large crowd and the teachers of the law.

  • Remember that in Mark 3:15 Jesus had given the disciples authority to drive out demons.

Read or watch Mark 9:14-29 two times as others listen.

Key Principle

When ministry is not going the way you expect, it might be wise to spend some extra time in prayer.

Prayer is direct connection to the source of power in ministry.

LOOKING FORWARD
Share these prayer strategies and tell which you find helpful in your own life and ministry.

Prayer Strategies

Prayer Calendar

Using this strategy you can raise up over 1,000  prayer partners.

It starts very simple.

  • Write down the names of 20 to 30 people who would return a call, text message or email.
  • Grab a calendar and put one name on each day you want to pray for people.
  • On the designated day, contact the person and ask how you can pray for them.
  • Pray with them or send them a text/email with your prayer

After a month or so, ask each person if they would start their own prayer calendar.  If each person says "yes" you will have a team of 900 prayer partners.

Prayer Chain

Some people refer to this as a WhatApp group or private Facebook group. You can also call it your "Emergency Prayer Team" or "Just In Time Prayer".

Ask this group to pray for something you are about to do and then let them know how God answered their prayer.

Bartimeus Prayers

MyFriends calls this 'praying with your non-Christian friends'.

Ask your non-Christian friends how you can pray for them and then let them overhear or read your prayer.

Then ask your friend  how God answered your prayer.

Prayer Walks

This is a way to open your eyes to the needs of your community and also to build a common vision for your team.

Gather regularly to walk through your community, praying for the people who live there.

For further ideas see hereslife.com

Prayer Gatherings
  • Bring people together to pray on a regular basis
  • You can meet online or in person.
  • Have a theme or focus.

Have them watch this video on their own time. It is 40 minutes long.
