Objectives of the Ministry Foundations Phase:

1. Create a relational, God-centred ENVIRONMENT for producing disciples through six foundational priorities:

  • Holy Spirit dependence
  • Prayer
  • Obedience to a Kingdom Agenda
  • Word of God
  • Exalting the Father
  • Relationships that are intentional

2. Begin to identify, THROUGH RELATIONSHIPS, a team of like-minded individuals committed to being involved in ministry

LOOKING UP
Environment of Intentional Relationships

Jesus modelled intentional relationships throughout His life. The very essence of the incarnation underscores this truth: “God became flesh and dwelt among us” (John 1:14). Early in His ministry, Jesus clearly prioritized building relationships with a broad base of people. From these relationships Jesus would later identify a few with whom He would go deeper.

Jesus modelled intensional relationships which were

  • mission focused
  • loving
  • community based

Ask individuals to read their assigned verses silently and then report how Jesus built relationships that were mission focused, loving and community based.

Other groups have said:

  • John 1:38-42
  • John 1:43-51
  • John 2:1-12
  • John 4:1-10
  • John 4:39-42

LOOKING FORWARD

This will be review for people who have are living the MyFriends Lifestyle.

Share this outline and then tell how it has impacted your life and ministry.

Prayer, Care, Share

In the MyFriends Lifestyle we use a framework of  “Prayer, Care, Share”

  • Prayer: A lifestyle of bringing Jesus into our connection with others. Even people who might not immediately be interested in hearing about Christ will frequently respond positively to our offer to pray for them. When they see God answer their prayers, it can create a deeper interest in the gospel. These answers to prayer can create opportunities to introduce many people to Christ.
  • Care: Demonstrating the love of Christ by ministering to the needs of others through acts of kindness.
  • Share: Intentionally sharing with others the reality of Christ in your life (your testimony). Sharing with others how they can start a relationship with Jesus (the gospel).

Look again at your Daisy Chart showing the relationships you already have.

  • What steps can you take to pray with these people?
  • What practical ways can you demonstrate God’s love in action?
  • How well equipped are you to bring your story and Christ’s story into your conversations with  these people?
  • How can your missional community  serve the wider community with sacrificial acts of service?
